BotServ is the epiphany of a bot service on the GameSurge IRC network. We have been around since GameSurge was known as GamesNet, and are noticed as the largest and arguably best bots on the network.

BotServ was originally conceived when BaW first discovered mIRC and GamesNet. Seeing other bot companies, he was instantly intrigued as to how they worked, and to make a service that would beat out all the rest!

The first version of BotServ was written with the mIRC protocol. Since mIRC was and still is the most widely used IRC client, it was easy to learn the language and find scripts to help him along the way. Though the bots were running and working nicely, we came to find that mIRC had a huge flaw with bots, Simply put, it was an IRC client, not a bot client. Only so many windows could be open and running at once, thus after a failed attempt at converting all the coding to use sockets, BaW decided to move on from mIRC to create version 2.

Version 2 of BotServ was written using the now widely used Eggdrop program. Now written in C++ and TCL, and the new edition of telnet, the bots were capable of much more than they were before! This version of BotServ lasted nearly 3 years and made BotServ bigger and better than all other bot services on GameSurge. Since we were growing, over time we found the flaws in Eggdrop too, that they could only handle so much information until they crashed. Having thousands of users on hundreds of channels, BaW new that he would have to do something to fix this problem.

Thus came the current version of BotServ, version 3. Having his eyes opened to PHP, BaW began a lengthy recoding process, converting the bots from Eggdrop and TCL to PHP and MySQL. This opened up endless possibilities with the bot! User lists could be longer and bigger than ever before, more information could be processed than ever before, and there is much more stability than ever before.

In the future we are looking towards making our bots better and stronger than ever before. With the future addition of our Web Control Panel, as well as the mIRC Control Panel, users can control their bots easier and faster than ever.
